Rowan Humberstone, 40 Humberstone Road, Cambridge, CB4 1JG, United Kingdom
This 8 week ceramic for beginners course takes you through the full ceramic journey, from your very first coil to a glazed, kiln-fired piece you can take home. You’ll explore a range of traditional hand-building techniques — coiling, slab building, and working with basic moulds — and get one-to-one time on the potter’s wheel. There’s nothing quite like the moment a shapeless lump of clay becomes something you actually made.
As the course progresses, you’ll have the space and individual support to develop your own independent project, decorating your work with coloured slips and glazes. All finished pieces are fired in Rowan’s professional kiln after your final session and ready to collect around four weeks later.
No experience needed — just a willingness to get your hands dirty.
Beci Callow is a local potter who creates a warm, relaxed environment where beginners genuinely thrive. She’ll guide you through every stage of the process with patience and enthusiasm, giving you the confidence to explore your own ideas as the weeks go on. See more of her work at becicallow.com.
Places are limited and get booked fast, so it’s worth securing yours early. Everything you need is provided — just wear something you don’t mind getting a little mucky.
£230 for 8 week course
Please note there are no sessions on Mondays 4th and 25th May, and on Thursday 28th May.
