Drypoint printmaking is a really accessible method of intaglio printmaking. Unlike traditional etching, it requires no use of acids, varnishes or resists, making it safer and less complicated. It is ideal for creating expressive marks and intricate details from your very first session.

In this friendly, hands-on course, you’ll learn to create rich lines and textures, then use a professional etching press to transfer your designs onto paper. There’s a particular magic to peeling back the paper and seeing your print for the first time — and you’ll experience it again and again.

Week by week, you’ll build confidence as you create delicate single-colour prints, then explore adding colour using chine collé (layered, glued papers) or other materials. No drawing experience needed — just curiosity.

You’ll head home with a collection of unique, hand-printed artworks that are genuinely yours, and you’ll have learned ways to create similar images at home.

Charlotte Aldis is a Cambridge-based printmaker with a gift for making beginners feel at ease. She works across linocut, drypoint, solarplate, and experimental materials — and draws inspiration from the world of illustrated children’s books, so expect a course with a sense of playfulness and wonder.
